日本ではようやく「Baldur's Gate II：Shadows of Amn」の完全日本語版が発売されるが、海外ではその拡張キット「Baldur's Gate II：Throne of Bhaal」が発売となり、大いに盛り上がっている。今回、突然公開された完全フリーの拡張キット「Heart of Winter：Trials of the Luremaster」は、「BG II」のひとつ前のD&Dシリーズ作品にあたる「Icewind Dale」の拡張キット「Icewind Dale：Heart of Winter」をさらに拡張するものだ。
「Heart of Winter：Trials of the Luremaster」をプレイするためには、あらかじめ「Icewind Dale」および「Icewind Dale：Heart of Winter」をインストールしている必要がある。内容そのものも拡張キットの拡張キットというものなので、新しいクエストに挑戦するためには、本編をクリアできる程度のパーティーを揃えたセーブデータも必要となる。
主な内容は、20の新しいエリア、新しいモンスター(Beholders、Jacklweres、Ochre Jellies、Harpies、Green Slime)、新しいユニークアイテム、6つのポートレートなどとなっている。経験値の上限やスペルに変化はないようだ。追加されたエリアは地上がメインとのことで、クリア必要時間は8～10時間前後。現時点で対応しているのは英語版(UK/US版)のみとなっているが、順次、フランス語、ドイツ語、スペイン語、イタリア語をサポートしていくという。肝心の日本語版は、「Icewind Dale：Heart of Winter」がリリースされていないため、最初から予定には含まれていない。
