DS版もWii版同様に“パラダイスフォール（秘境の滝）”のあるジャングルを中心に冒険を楽しむこととなる。ステージを進んでいく内にカールとラッセルを切り替えて、それぞれの特長を生かし協力してゲームを進めていかなければならない。たとえばカールで先に進み高いところからラッセルを引き上げてあげるなどの協力が必要な仕掛けが用意されている
